I am not sure I would do the design this way now, but at the time, 20+ years ago, it was perfect and is now a treasured heirloom that hangs in our home. Two of our children have been married under it so far and a few of their friends! The center of the piece is an acrylic on canvas painting. There are over 500 pearls sewn into it as well as a few crystals. As this hangs above you in the ceremony, the tassels hang freely. The hand-painted Hebrew text is from Song of Songs and reads, "Take my hand, come run with me".
Each time someone has been married under this chuppah, we have asked that they mark the event by adding a patch on the back that documents their nuptials. We now have 5 patches! Whenever I glance at the back of the chuppah, it makes me so proud to have this heirloom in our home and to know that it is cherished by everyone that is married under it.
