LORI SHOCKET | THREADWORKS ART

I create contemporary textile works through an improvisational process that balances control with spontaneity. Drawing inspiration from topography, architecture, and the human experience, my pieces explore movement, tension, and transformation. Through layered cloth, free-form stitching, and shifting geometries, the work reflects how we adapt, rebuild, and find coherence within complexity. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, shaped by intuitive decisions

made in conversation with the material itself.

Each category represents a distinct approach within a shared visual language.

TOPOGRAPHIC FIBER STUDIES

TOPOGRAPHIC FIBER STUDIES

Geometric Improv Piecing explores structure through intuition, using geometry as a flexible framework rather than a fixed system. Influenced by the bold visual language of the Gee’s Bend quilters, these works balance order and disruption, allowing rhythm, interruption, and discovery to shape each piece.

TOPOGRAPHIC FIBER STUDIES

Topographic Fiber Studies draw on the visual language of terrain, using contour-like stitching and layered surfaces to suggest movement, memory, and passage. These works read as both landscape and lived experience, mapping inner and outer terrain through slow, deliberate mark-making.

PERIPHERAL WORKS

Peripheral Works gather pieces created at the edges of my primary series—where experimentation, interruption, and intuition take the lead. These works allow new forms, rhythms, and surface language to emerge, often pointing toward future directions while remaining complete and resolved in their own right.
